1. Amelia, can you tell us a little bit about the growth plans for Utah county, especially with regards to the Vineyard area that’s being developed?

We are currently developing a growth plan that involves projections and working closely with cities and municipalities. We are focusing on communicating and coordinating with all the stakeholders to ensure a smooth and sustainable growth for the county.

2. What are some of the key things that potential residents should know about the plans for areas like Saratoga Springs or the south county?

We are working on ensuring there is adequate infrastructure to support the growth in these areas. This includes planning for roads and other essential services. We also want to preserve some areas for those who want half-acre lots or animal rights, so there’s a variety of options for residents.

3. What are some of the top things that you’re working on right now that you’re really excited about?

One of the major projects we’re excited about is the development of a new main street that will not disrupt existing structures. We’re also working on projections for the county’s growth, as we’re expecting to be larger than Salt Lake County in the future.

4. Can you share more about the cost implications of not planning for growth in advance?

If we don’t plan for growth ahead of time, the cost implications can be significant. For example, widening roads or other infrastructure after the fact can be five to ten times more expensive than doing it in advance. It’s a matter of investing now to save in the long run.

5. How has the county adapted to digital services, especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic?

We’ve made significant strides in digital services. For example, we were the first in the state to offer online marriage licenses. We’re also doing zoom weddings and have made many of our services available online. This not only makes things more convenient for our residents, but it also saves the county resources.
